This class will examine the many different symbols and designs featured on American tombstones from the colonial period to the present day. It will offer the possibility of gaining a greater understanding for why people chose a particular symbol, what ideas were they trying to convey, and what did they mean by that. The class will feature many examples from more than 300 years of American tombstones.
