Family History Month continues with Allison DePrey Singleton telling us “I Seek Dead People: Using America’s GenealogyBank to Find Obituaries and More!” on Sunday October 6, 2019, at 2:30 p.m., in the Discovery Center. America’s GenealogyBank is one of the new databases added to The Genealogy Center’s On-Site Databases this year. It contains database collections of Historical Newspapers (1690-1922), Historical Books (1749-1900), Historical Documents (1789-1994), and America's Obituaries (1977-current). The obituary components of this resource make it a particularly valuable tool for genealogy research.

The Allen County Genealogical Society Monthly Meeting is Wednesday October 9, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., in the Discovery Center. Kayleen Reusser offers “Tips for Interviewing Military Veterans.” Kayleen will share her experiences of interviewing hundreds of veterans of all eras. An interview form will be provided with key questions for securing information about the veteran’s life and military service. Guidelines also will be provided for photographing the veteran, their medals and military souvenirs.

And on Saturday October 12, 2019, 1:30 p.m., at the Georgetown Branch, 6600 East State Blvd., Allison DePrey Singleton will discuss “Morbid Genealogy.” It is the season for ghosts, vampires, and witches. While these are not typically part of the genealogical world, we can still discuss the macabre and morbid aspects of genealogy. Take part in an entertaining discussion on morbid genealogy with a Halloween flair.
