We have a number of new additions made to the Marsha Smiley Collection. Some have to do with clubs and societies in Fort Wayne, including Cosmopolites Turning 60 Fort Wayne Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, History of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Zonta Club of Fort Wayne, and Fort Wayne Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta

Other items deal with local events, history and people, such as Neighborhood of Saturdays, Gaines Homestead, and the Fort Wayne Community Fishing Derby, 2018.

And some relate to African Americans in America, such as “Our Ancestors Call Us to Unity,” Abortions of Black Babies in America Called Genocide, America’s First Black Muslims, Artifacts Show Slaves Retained Native Religions, Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March, Robert S. Abbott: The Man Behind the Headlines, Letter From a Free Man.

We also have additional African American material for Indiana and other locations, such as Indiana Conference Branch, 87th Annual Convention, 1985 and 88th, 1986, of the AME Women’s Missionary Society,  and the Society’s Fort Wayne Area Annual Report, 1988-1999, as well as the Leadership Guide for the Women’s Missionary Society.

And, for those of you who have not seen it, Marsha Smiley was featured in a Fort Wayne Journal Gazette article!
